the hatchery
A Codex App pet idling inside a Hatchery frame.

Hatch a Codex pet for your Codex App.

Browse the launch roster, inspect each manifest, and install from the same API used by the MCP server and CLI.

Try one. Right here.

A pet renders in the Codex App while install work happens wherever Codex runs.

Codex

Install where Codex runs.

The MCP path works from terminal and IDE, while the Codex App renders the pet from the same local home.

01

In your terminal.

mcpcodex
npx the-hatchery install kernel

The CLI reads the public pet manifest, records the install event, and writes the pet into the Codex home.

02

Inside Codex itself.

/hatchmarketplace
mcp/hatch
npx the-hatchery install kernel

The Hatchery MCP will make /hatch return marketplace pets for the App from the same manifest API.

Read Codex setup docs.

03

One click.

guidedCodex App
npx the-hatchery install kernel

Every install surface points at the same pet ID, manifest, and sprite URLs.

Make pets. Keep 85%.

Creator tools stay practical: sprite states, pricing, and earnings before anything decorative.

Where do agents actually live?

The marketplace, docs, and install path start from the same question: where does an agent actually belong.

Read why Gabe built it.

A small note from the person building the product.

GD

I built The Hatchery for the moment when Codex stops feeling like a window and starts feeling like a place.

The pets are tiny, but the product around them should be serious: clean docs, copyable commands, honest pricing, and art that earns its pixels.

The goal is simple: make something OpenAI engineers would inspect, understand, and remember.
